Project Kick-Off Leibniz works 4.0 – Leibniz School of Education

About 60 people took part in the project kick-off on 13.05.2020, which was an online event due to the corona pandemic. In addition to the participants of the BMBF project, numerous other players from the Hannover teacher education sector, the vocational schools in Lower Saxony and the associated ministries came together.

About Leibniz works 4.0

The project “Leibniz works 4.0: Changing Learning- and Working Environments in Teacher Education for Vocational Schools” is part of an additional funding phase of the Federal and State Initiative “Quality Campaign Teacher Education”. The focus of its’ content in this funding phase are the topics “Digitalization in Teacher Education” and “Teacher Education for vocational Schools”. The profession-oriented goal of Leibniz works 4.0 are the development of the reflective ability for action in vocational-educational contexts.

First, the scientific director of the project, Prof. Dr. Julia Gillen, opened the project kick-off. She welcomed the participants and gave a short introduction to the thematic positioning of the project.

Afterwards, the previously recorded greeting by Ministerialrat Christoph Schiene was played back. In it, he positively emphasized that the Leibniz works 4.0 project simultaneously addresses two " key areas" of teacher education. On the one hand, this is the teaching profession at vocational schools, where more graduates in the commercial and technical fields are desired nationwide. On the other hand, digitization in teacher education, but also in the world of life and work, poses challenges and opens up great opportunities for teacher education and everyday school life.

At the concluding multi-perspective, the question "What does university vocational teacher education have to do for today's students so that they can later respond to digitalisation in their work as vocational school teachers?" was discussed. The following representatives from the three phases of vocational teacher education gave a short statement on this topic:

On the basis of the statements, two live polls were conducted, which allowed a picture of the opinions of the participants at the event to be formed.
