As part of the 'Transformative Horizons' project, an asynchronous online lecture series was created, which is aimed at all interested student teachers at Leibniz Universität Hannover, incoming and outgoing, and explicitly also at students from the partner institutions Universidad de Guadalajara and Universidad de Guanajuato. It invites you to reflect on (your own) experiences of foreignness in relation to later professional practice as a teacher in a globalized world.

Content of the lecture

Future teachers should be prepared for diversity-sensitive teaching. The 'dealing with diversity' is discussed as a central challenge in education systems and is gaining international political relevance. Socially constructed categories of difference include disability, gender, culture, ethnicity and language, each of which is closely related to educational inequalities. They are called up and reproduced in educational institutions and lead to social positioning in schools and society. For example, language is perceived as part of identity and thus determines whether students belong to certain groups. After the series of lectures deals with the emergence of social inequalities in the education system along diversity dimensions and their interactions, an in-depth examination of language and the construct of multilingualism as an aspect of diversity takes place. Guest lecturers from Spanish, English and German-speaking countries will discuss how the acquisition and loss of (native) language can be shaped socially and pedagogically.

How can I participate?

The event takes place as an online seminar on the Stud.IP learning platform and does not require attendance. The students are provided with recorded events in Spanish and English (duration approx. 45 minutes each). You will receive reflection assignments for self-study, which can be worked on in German, English or Spanish. In addition, the students are offered two synchronous online appointments to get to know each other and to exchange information about tasks.
